Chef David founded Y&B in 2012 as a way to satisfy his many passions and to create unique food experiences for his local community. His twenty three years of culinary industry experience bond with a passionate history of living and teaching on organic farms around the world, notably in Vermont, California, and Australia. This background influences menus driven by the seasons with a dedication to humane, fair and regional foods that tell a story. Chef David’s ongoing work for elite clients as a Private Chef has allowed him to craft dishes with some of the best ingredients in the world. With his passion and experience, Yam & Bean aims to create not just meals, but food events that satisfy each client's unique design.
Chef Rica Smith Joined Yam & Bean in 2017. Her 20 years of high end-culinary experience shows a dedication to farm-sourced, local and organic foods as well as a sustained joy for the art of cooking. Her style reflects the changing seasons and the richness of the Bay Area’s bounty. Chef Rica’s seasoned palate inspires her hand-crafted global cuisine, presenting creative and classic dishes in almost any style.
Yam & Bean brings a personal touch and a dedication to client relationships bringing out the best in every event or meal. David and Rica build trusted connections with gardeners, farmers, ranchers, and vendors to provide only the best each season has to offer.
